Disturbing trend continues....
Ex-con, girlfriend arrested in 'horrific' beating of Dade police - Miami-Dade - MiamiHerald.com
First and foremost, speedy recovery to Det Castillo and thoughts and prayers to his family.
Bad guy takes off on foot from stop, leaves girlfriend with cop. Bad guy returns from a different direction and attacks Castillo from behind, nearly killing him. Another ambush type scenario....
Sadly, I just finished reading Sapper's post about finding one officer to help him, and his council can't make up their mind, and they think that someone will just sign up to work for free. It's frustrating that the "bottom line" is all that concerns departments and city councils all across the country at a time when what the real "needs" of departments is more personnel, increased training, and improved equipment. I know that these things are not going to eliminate situations like the one here, and I also know that you can't squeeze water from a rock getting funds that aren't there. But maybe just some nationwide awareness of the dangers that face LEO's today. So that citizens can make INFORMED decisions when voting.
If this story was a cop that "man-handled" suspect wrong, it would have been national news, and the Jackson/Sharpton show would have rolled into Miami that day. This POS, smashed a cinder block over Det Castillo's head, breaking the block, hit and kicked Castillo in the head and chest, and then RAN over him in his OWN patrol car, leaving him in a pile along side the road, and you don't hear anything about it....So sad....
Sorry for the rant....just pisses me off...

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
