Bentonville, AR - The defense lawyer for a state trooper accused in the fatal shooting of a mentally disabled man told news media today that his client has been indicted on a misdemeanor count of negligent homicide.
Lawyer John Everett said a Benton County grand jury indicted Trooper Larry Norman in the March 7th shooting of 21-year-old Erin Hamley, whom police mistakenly thought was an armed fugitive from Michigan.
Everett said "Larry Norman, together with the rest of the community, grieves for the family of Erin Hamley and genuinely regrets this unfortunate and tragic occurrence.''
Benton County Prosecutor Robin Green was not immediately available for comment.
State police spokesman Bill Sadler said he was aware Norman was indicted but had not received official word from Green.
