Shoot to Wound
City cops oppose bill that would require them to shoot to wound - NYPOST.com
City cops are livid over a legislative proposal that could handcuff the brave officers involved in life-and-death confrontations every day — requiring them to shoot gun-wielding suspects in the arm or leg rather than shoot to kill, The Post has learned. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

If it were to pass I hope every single officer in that God forsaken state refuses to work

If that passes, they might as well just start writing blank checks for the cops to hand over to the dirtbag when they shoot him in the arm.

Even in this land of make believe armed officers are taught to shoot to STOP..death being the normal outcome.

I was trained to shoot to stop, not kill. I was also trained that the most effective shot placement for stopping is center mass/head. My intent would be stopping the threat, death is between the suspect and God.
I believe that trying to legislate shot placement is absolutely insane; a law written by dreamers with no practical knowledge or common sense.*************************"It wouldn't take much for me to up and run...to another life somewhere in the sun."

Another bill proposed by a lawmaker who's only concept of being in a high stress life or death situation is what they see on TV , in movies and video games. That's just stupid enough to pass.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Not to mention that center of mass has the most margin for error on shot placement, and the least chance of over-penetration. If you're aiming for arms and parts of the leg, or God help us, the HAND holding the gun, your round ain't stopping there.

There are three ways to effect a stop.
Electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic.
They are asking for mechanical, the most difficult and least effective of the three choices.

We were never taught to shoot to kill in the first place. We were taught to shoot until there is no longer a threat. When you shoot, you aim center mass, as you will never shoot as well in a gunfight as you will in a structured enviroment. Now if we could all be cool and collective like Danny Crane, we could shoot the right knee, then the left, while smiling and talking and not really fearing for our life or the life of others. But this ain't TV......
The six o'clock ruleI tell them to act according to the six o'clock rule, a phrase that causes most of them to say, "Huh?"
I tell them to use this little test before they decide to do something. If they were to do what they're thinking about, and it became the lead story on the six o'clock news, would they be proud? Would their department be proud, and would their family be proud? It's a simple way to live your life both personally and professionally.

Sure I can do that. While they are at it why don't they legislate a flaming hoop to jump through while executing a somersault and firing before sticking the landing. It should also be legislated that the suspect is required to jump about and shoot at me while I perform said action and failure to do so will result in the issuance of a citation to said suspect for a vehicular non moving violation.
