"It is a highly charged, highly emotional situation," said Susan Walsh, the office administrator for First United Methodist Church in Coppell, where services will be at 2 p.m.
On Thursday, city officials said they also were looking into charges Jayne Peters made on her city-issued credit card. That news quickly followed hints that the mayor was facing personal financial problems.


Angela Almeida, who graduated from high school with Corinne Peters last month, said she and her friends talked Wednesday about the funerals. Some had hoped the services would be performed separately.

"We don't want to see our friend next to the person who put her in the place where we can no longer know her," Almeida said.

Coppell city officials, meanwhile, took heat for choosing this week to lower city facility flags to half staff to mark the mayor's death. The city also placed a memorial item to Jayne Peters on the city website. Some saw the actions as the city honoring a woman who is believed to have murdered her daughter.

City spokeswoman Sharon Logan defended the decision and said the city will keep the flags at half staff until after the funerals.
