ONALASKA - The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating a crash early this morning in the town of Onalaska that killed a 16-year-old and involved a squad car en route to an emergency in Holmen.
La Crosse County Sheriff's Deputy Trisha Stratman was northbound on Hwy. 35 about 1 a.m. with lights and siren activated when her car collided with the driver's side of a vehicle traveling west on Hwy. OT.
Brandon M. Jennings, 16, of Brice Prairie was the lone occupant of the other vehicle, was ejected from it and was pronounced dead at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, according to the sheriff's department. He was a student at Holmen High School.
Stratman was released from the hospital after treatment for minor injuries. She assisted Jennings after the crash and notified dispatch.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Dammit, folks! When are we going to get it into our heads that we're no damn good at the scene if we don't get there and end up tying up resources dealing with a crash.

Definitely.....stop at ALL red lights and look and look again before going through! That was some advice given to me as a rookie from another officer that was in an intersection related collision. Those lights and siren only mean something if they are seen (heard) and understood.

I've been following other news articles on it.
She was traveling 106 mph 1.6 seconds before impact. The accident occurred at a controlled intersection, and she had a red light.
