YAGOL! (Yet Another Gulf Oil Leak!)
Barge crashes into oil well in Gulf of Mexico, new oil leak reported
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AFP) – The US Coast Guard dispatched emergency teams Tuesday after a boat crashed into an oil well off the coast of New Orleans, reportedly sending crude spewing some 20 feet into the air.
The wellhead, located about 65 miles (104 kilometers) south of New Orleans, was ruptured when it was struck by a dredge barge being pulled by a tug.
The Coast Guard said it could not immediately confirm reports that a giant fountain of oil was now spewing from the damaged wellhead, which was situated only six feet (1.8 meters) below the surface of the sea.
A strike Coast Guard team from Mobile, Alabama had been dispatched by boat to the scene as well as a helicopter from New Orleans with a marine pollution investigator on board.
"There have been reports of oil from the elision and we are investigating those reports to mitigate any environmental concerns," petty officer William Colclough, a Coast Guard spokesman, told AFP.
"The oil spill liability trust fund has been enacted to provide monetary support for any clean-up operation."
Unrelated to the massive gusher recently capped by BP deep down on the seabed, the incident did occur in a nearby part of the Gulf of Mexico and could require clean-up vessels to be redeployed if reports are confirmed.

UPDATE: NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Oil and gas leaked Tuesday from a damaged
well on a waterway north of a bay where officials have been
fighting the spill from the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coast Guard said the tow boat Pere Ana C. struck the
wellhead near Mud Lake early Tuesday. The boat was moved to LaRose
after the incident. No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard did not know who owns the well or how much oil
had leaked.
Chief Petty Officer John Edwards said a strip of oil 50 yards
wide and a mile long was spotted on the water near the well.
Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts said oil was spewing from
the wellhead.
Lt. Brian Sattler said a helicopter was dispatched to survey the
area, which is accessible only by boat.
Sattler said state and federal agencies were alerted and
authorities were hiring someone to stop the leak.
Mud Lake is part of a network of bayous and lakes north of
Barataria Bay, an ecologically sensitive coastal estuary where
authorities have been fighting waves of oil from the Deepwater
Horizon accident.
Roberts said he was confident the leak and spill could be taken
care of soon.
"This likely can be contained today," he said in an e-mail.
He was worried, however, that the leak forced a halt to water
traffic leading into Barataria Bay. That could hamper efforts to
redeploy oil-fighting equipment that was moved inland ahead of last
week's Tropical Storm Bonnie.
"This leaves us vulnerable until we can reopen traffic and get
resources back out," Roberts said.

On the other hand there's the below report
Frankly with all the agenda biased reporting I don't know what to make of it. I see ABC news saying oil is hard to find and I wonder what their new angle is.
Really would rather hear from those of you living there than any media outlet or political voice. What do you make of the situation?
BP Oil Spill: Clean-Up Crews Can't Find Crude in the Gulf
...
At its peak last month, the oil slick was the size of Kansas, but it has been rapidly shrinking, now down to the size of New Hampshire.
Today, ABC News surveyed a marsh area and found none, and even on a flight out to the rig site Sunday with the Coast Guard, there was no oil to be seen.
...
The numbers don't lie: two weeks ago, skimmers picked up about 25,000 barrels of oily water. Last Thursday, they gathered just 200 barrels.
Still, it doesn't mean that all the oil that gushed for weeks is gone. Thousands of small oil patches remain below the surface, but experts say an astonishing amount has disappeared, reabsorbed into the environment.

Sadly, I'm sure a lot of it is now on the beaches, killing plants, animals, and habitat over a wide area.
