Teen purse snatcher apprehended at mall

EL CAJON – An off-duty El Cajon police officer and a dispatcher heard a woman scream while shopping at Parkway Plaza on Monday evening, then saw a woman chasing a teenage boy clutching her purse.

The officer, dispatcher and several other people gave chase and together caught the 16-year-old boy at 8:30 p.m. They also recovered the 40-year-old woman's purse with about $350 in cash inside.

Lt. Steve Shakowski said the teenager was arrested on suspicion of purse snatching and taken to Juvenile Hall.

The officer and dispatcher asked not to be identified, Shakowski said.
