plastic bags banned?
State ban on plastic grocery bags down to wire | PressDemocrat.com
If legislators pass a proposed ban before the end of the two-year legislative session at midnight Tuesday, California would become the first state in the country to prohibit plastic carrying bags.
Starting in 2012, large grocery stores could no longer offer plastic and would have to offer recycled paper bags, which customers would pay for. Smaller grocers would follow in 2013.
For critics, the bill threatens to saddle Californians with millions of dollars in extra costs during tough times. Paper bags cost about 5 cents each, five times what plastic bags cost, said Keith Christman, managing director at the American Chemistry Council, a leading opponent of the bill.
He also said the ban threatens about 1,000 California jobs associated with the manufacturing of the bags and will cost millions of dollars to enforce.
“That's a huge cost that California families will have to bear,” he said.

This is nuts, are we that much in a need of a nanny state? The walmart here in town is already banned from using plastic bags. Instead you have to "buy" bags at $1 each. I refuse each time and just use their cart to carry all my stuff out. I'm gone out of my way to avoid any way of buying a bag from them.
There is also a bill going before the governor to ban after market exhaust on a motorcycle'Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a
delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly
promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely
possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!'

If that happened here, I would save every plastic bag I could get my hands on before the bill went into effect. I would just bring a handful every time I went to the store. A buck a bag? F that in the A.

Whilst at some stores they only charge you a few pennies for a bag, at most stores instaed of being charged you get a reward point on the companys reward scheme for using your own bag at the checkout. You can still have a bag for free if you want though.
Generally speaking I haven't had to use the stores bag for several months now.
I think the idea of reward for a bit of enviromental sense is a better route.
Now if only we can get people to start using their own containers at macdonalds!the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

If you need I can send you as many plastic bags that you want. You could also just show up at the stores with garbage bags and have them load them!"An Unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it." Jeff Cooper
