Is it me -- or does this seem to be happening more and more often lately? Seems like it would be a year or two between an account of an impersonator stopping a cop -- but I think I've heard 3 or 4 this summer alone, and they seem to be separate incidents...
Maybe the impersonators are getting dumber...Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

I wish but my gut tells me there are just more of them. Around here I've heard (haven't actually confirmed it) that you now have the right to have a traffic stop by an undercover unit moved to a location you are comfortable at and to have a marked unit arrive, due to the prolific amount of impersonators.

Long Island, New York (The Weekly Vice) - Victor Alfaro-Marquez, a 35-year-old Long Island man, was arrested Monday after he allegedly pulled over a vehicle while pretending to be an officer, only to discover the man he pulled over was a real officer.
According to Suffolk County Detectives, Alfaro-Marquez pulled up behind Detective William Zambito at 4:30 a.m. while driving a Mercedes SUV equipped with red and blue lights on the dashboard.

THE WEEKLY VICE: Victor Alfaro-Marquez Played A Game Of Good Cop - Wanna Be Cop
Prior arrest on record for having a fake DL. I remember reading somewhere (can't find the link) that he said it was his first time to pull someone over. I'm catching a strong whiff of BS on that.

What I don't get is how it's even possible they think they'll get away with this kind of nonsense.

That's easy, they think they won't get caught. They get on a power trip and delude themselves into thinking they're doing the world a favor. Some even think if the cops find out what they're doing, it's automatic entry into the ranks. A lot of times these losers find themselves as security guards, pulling people over in their spare time. I've had more than one guy with the 'superhero' complex wind up as a coworker, and it reminds me of why I'm unarmed security - I'd be too tempted to just shoot them.

I'm glad they got that guy.
Here in Delaware this week we had two impersonators gain entry into someone's home where I believe they stole a bunch of items.Calm Like A Bomb...
