A city cop escaped serious injury early Friday morning when a Briggs Street man nearly ran him down in front of a Weir Street bar, authorities said.

Timothy Joseph Sullivan, 38, of 110 Briggs St., unit 7, faces felony charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle) and assault and battery on a police officer. He was also charged with driving on a revoked license.

Sullivan was released on $1,000 bail after arraignment Friday in Taunton District Court.

Police initially responded to Bobby’s Place, 62 Weir St., just after 1 a.m. to investigate a complaint of a man punching a window of the building.

Cops say Eric Famularo, 30, of 73 Paul Bunker Drive, refused to leave the area when ordered to do so, challenging Patrolman John Borges by saying, “What are you going to do about it?” and balling his fists as if to throw a punch.

Officer Borges then sprayed Famularo in the face with a single-second burst of pepper spray and cuffed him. Famularo, who refused medical attention despite a bleeding hand, was charged with disorderly conduct.
