Electric motorcycles used as stealth crime-fighting tool
Electric vehicles are often touted for their energy efficiency, but some California police officers see another attribute: stealth crime-fighting tool.
The Scotts Valley Police Department is now using an electric motorcycle made by Zero Motorcycle to quietly patrol its streets. It's the first law enforcement agency in California to do so, according to an announcement by the manufacturer.

A Police Agency in Columbia, SC has two. They mostly sit up being recharged or broke. When they are used, they are good for a few hours then back to 8 hrs of recharging, so I'm told. I really thing that agencies in completely urban areas with should consider those hy-bred cars such as the Ford Fuson or even the Toyota Prius (Chevy Volt is to waaaay to expensive) for purely patrol dutys and those admin types that always seem to drive big cars back and forth to home and work (usually with the childs seat in the back seat). Something to think about with the rising gas prices and budget constraints.

I was speaking with a chief at a college in KY that uses Segway's. It's gotten fairly common for the officers to ride up right behind someone smoking dope without ever being heard.
