Church agrees to not protest slain child's funeral
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A controversial Kansas church has decided not protest at the funeral of a 9-year-old girl killed in Saturday's shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz.
Shirley Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., says church members will skip Thursday's funeral of Christina Taylor Green.
Phelps-Roper was interviewed Tuesday by a station in Toronto, Canada, and is scheduled to be on a morning talk show Saturday. She says Westboro Baptist Church decided not to picket in exchange for the airtime.

Oh, how sweet of them.
SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM-Ex-Sheriff Martin Howe to Will Kane in "High Noon"
"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Sorry if I've missed something but why are these religious groups picketing funerals ?

They've been a blight on our society for awhile now. They picket alot of soldier's funerals, often with signs saying "God Hates Fags" or "God Loves Dead Soldiers" and other such slogans. Their stance is that God is punishing America for tolerating gays by killing soldiers. They often bring their very young children to these demonstrations.

My best guess is they realized how many people would be armed in proximity to that funeral.

Ya know, I know that you're not supposed to judge others but I just have to wonder what it will feel like to them on judgement day when those people realize just how wrong they were.

I'm all for 1A rights, but there wouldn't be much standing in my way if I were this little girl's father from taking matters into my own hands if they showed up.

Somehow they read from a bible that must have had this page ripped out...

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

I think you misunderstood. I am a Christian, but I don't tolerate or support hate and bigotry of the likes of WBC. I don't see the vast majority of Christians tolerating it either. And as for homosexuality, I don't think it is my place to judge. I personally don't think it is a choice, and therefore I'm not going to condemn people to hell because of it. Also, for what it is worth, I don't really consider WB to be a church. They are using the guise of religion to spew hate and filth. A church, in my opinion, loves and nurtures especially those who need it. Be it those suffering from the loss of a loved one, those who are needy, those who are not saved or any number of other things. That is what a church is supposed to do.

I have always liked the quote "Church is not a haven for saints, it's a hospital for sinners." I believe that is what church/religion should be.
