How the FBI raided Anonymous in response to last year’s Wikileaks DDoS attacks
Yesterday, the FBI executed 40 different search warrants in relation to Anonymous’ DDoS attacks against Visa, MasterCard, PayPal and Amazon for what Anonymous felt was justified retaliation against companies they felt were anti-Wikileaks.
Members of Anonymous claim that the DDoS attacks were peaceful protests, but the FBI doesn’t see it that way. And I imagine that most of the 40 people who were raided weren’t really hackers as much as they’re idiots who downloaded and used Anon’s Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) tool, not realizing that without protection and without knowing what they’re doing is just a giant beacon that can be seen from space saying “Hello FBI, come to my house, kick down my door and seize my computers.”
Since the raids, several first-hand make-of-it-what-you-will accounts from people who had surprise visits from the G-men.
