Report blasts new Orleans PoliceNew Orleans police officers have engaged in unconstitutional conduct and violated federal laws in their use of excessive force; illegal stops, searches and arrests; racial and ethnic profiling; and mistreatment of gays, according to a scathing Justice Department report released Thursday.
The report, culminating a 10-month investigation by the department’s Civil Rights Division, says New Orleans police regularly used excessive force as retaliation but were not held accountable; deployed canines that were “uncontrollable;” lacked training programs on alternatives to force; regularly harassed gays and lesbians, and failed to investigate sexual assaults and domestic violence.

Deputy Attorney General James Cole, who attended the news conference, noted that some New Orleans police officers “come to work each and every day dedicated to the vital role they play in protecting and serving the citizens of this wonderful City.
That is a start, at least he acknowledges that some of the officers are good. I expect the Chief to be let go and either a new one appointed or the Justice Department taking over the department till it can be "righted" in their eyes."An Unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it." NOPD can't catch a break. With the city being run by Democrats I wonder why the department they run is so poorly managed? That's surprising since everything else New Orleans does is managed so well. Oh wait.
Once again, all the good that agency does is tarred and over shadowed by a few idiots.Pleasing nobody, one person at a time.
That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

the justice dept is saying the same crap about other agencies also. Seattle PD for example. I think it is just a way to force local agencies to comply with what they want via consent decrees.'Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a
delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly
promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely
possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!'

Mitch Landrieu names Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas as New Orleans' top cop

Ronal Serpas, who served as second-in-command to New Orleans Police Chief Richard Pennington
Now this guy came in with a head full of steam. I think the total of arrests were 9 quick fast and in a hurry. I don't know what happened to make him move on but I can imagine.
Pennington grew up in Gary, Indiana. He began his career in law enforcement in 1968 as a police officer in Washington, D.C., where he was eventually promoted to Assistant Chief. In 1994, he was hired as police chief in New Orleans, and was credited with major improvements in what had been a poorly-regarded and corruption-ridden police department. In fact, conditions in the department were so bad before Pennington arrived, the U.S. Justice Department was threatening to move in & take over the city's law enforcement.Do not war for peace. If you must war, war for justice. For without justice there is no peace. -me
