Glad he was wearing, I know it won't stop all of them, but is that an excuse not to wear it at all?

Necessary action taken. Thankfully the officer was saved.

Glad to hear he's OK.
The fact that even I MIGHT encounter an armed individual is enough for me to never think about going on patrol without body armour.
It's a no brainer really.the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

Wow, just 5 days on the job! Glad he is OK and that he was wearing his vest. Its policy here to wear your vest anytime your in uniform, and they will write you up if your found not wearing it. I think that is necessary in this day and age.

It's mandatory here. OSHA requires it be provided and worn, and so does our State version.

I tell them to use this little test before they decide to do something. If they were to do what they're thinking about, and it became the lead story on the six o'clock news, would they be proud? Would their department be proud, and would their family be proud? It's a simple way to live your life both personally and professionally.

So is a coffin... which is what I remind a few friends of mine when I catch them without theirs on - granted it gets hot as hell down here in the summer - but I'll take some sweat over a flatline any day
I don't know why in anyone's right mind they would not wear a vest... plain and simple - if I've got that monkey suit on, you'd better be sure I've got my vest on - I'll take every little bonus I can get to help me follow rule number 1...-=Twan007

Yep. Only 4 out of 9 of us do. Incredibly, "That kind of thing won't happen here" is the most popular response, followed by, "if it's my time, it's just my time." No thought apparently given to friends and family.
Vest are provided by the PD and encouraged in SOP but not required.

Our policy is similar. Vest are required if you know you're going into high risk activities. Otherwise, it's optional. Personally -- I'll go to court without one, and I admit there's no good reason other than convenience. To me -- patrol is, by definition, high risk and it should be required.
And it ain't even the salty old dogs that don't wear 'em. Several of the guys who don't are youngsters, no hash marks to their name, and young families. If I don't have any other reason to wear it -- my two-year old and going home to him is enough to make me deal with the discomfort.Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

I'd never even think of putting on my uniform shirt over anything but my vest. I don't care where you are, all it takes is the wrong guy convinced you're looking for HIM, and that's that.
