Disney did WHAT???
LOS ANGELES – The Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday that it has withdrawn its application to trademark the phrase "SEAL Team 6," the elite unit that killed Osama bin Laden, after the Navy moved to protect its rights and the entertainment giant endured a wave of criticism and late-night jibes.
Disney sought the trademark rights on May 3, two days after U.S. operatives raided a luxury compound in Pakistan and killed the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.

I'm no friend of the mouse, but when this story came out and a couple friends invited me to share their moral outrage I didn't comply. Instead I suggested Disney, being a huge media company, may well have an automated system that tracked the popularity of search terms and quietly trademarked dozens of names a day, few of which they'd ever use. I thought that was sufficiently sleazy and fully expected a press release to quickly follow where they threw an intern under the bus and used the attention to announce a new attraction.
Turns out I'm not nearly cynical enough. I'll work on it.

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
-General Omar Bradley, United States Army
