Police: Sheriff's deputy kills ex-wife, shoots Virginia state trooper

A county sheriff's deputy killed his ex-wife in a convenience store parking lot Monday, then shot a Virginia state trooper before being gunned down himself, police said.
Roanoke Police Chief Chris Perkins told reporters Monday that a murder warrant has been received for Jonathan Agee, who is now at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds following a shoot-out with a pair of Virginia state police officers.
The bloodshed began at 11:30 a.m., when Jennifer Agee, 30, pulled into a Sheetz convenience store parking lot in Roanoke, Virginia, Perkins said. Trailing behind her in a marked Franklin County sheriff's office car was her ex-husband, Jonathan Agee. The 32-year-old sheriff's deputy from Boones Mill was off-duty at the time.

My old stomping grounds. I don't know the trooper but I'm glad he's ok. The suspect's name is familiar I've probably met him. I'm glad the good guys are ok.

This has been in the back of mind mind since I read it. I just can't get my head wrapped around how someone, no matter how bad the emotional pain, could do these things after having been involved in the aftermath in his job and knowing the results of such actions.

Agreed.

Is it wrong to think that if he was hell bent on ending a life due to it that he should've just gone out in the woods and off'd himself without more collateral damage?

Almost a half-hour before Jennifer Carter Agee was shot to death on Memorial Day, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office was warned that her sheriff's deputy ex-husband had an assault rifle and was driving to Salem to kill her.
But Sheriff Ewell Hunt told his dispatch center not to issue a "be on the lookout" alert to other law enforcement agencies, saying he would take care of the situation himself, according to a sheriff's office radio call log.
Then the sheriff called the police department in Salem, where Jennifer Agee lived and where he apparently thought Deputy Jonathan Agee was headed.
"I thought I could get the fastest response by making personal contact," Hunt said Tuesday.
Hunt failed to reach a Salem police supervisor. He left a message with a dispatcher asking for a return call, Salem Police Chief Jeff Dudley said.
Hunt's call was returned 13 minutes later, Salem city spokesman Mike Stevens said.
That was at 11:31 a.m. By then, Jennifer Agee, 30, lay dying, shot with a rifle not in Salem but in Roanoke, in the parking lot of the Sheetz convenience store on Orange Avenue.

Looks like this is much worse than originally reported, this could've been prevented had some good ole boy Sheriff not decided he knew what was best. The blood is on you, Sheriff. Enjoy all of the legal action you'll be facing with this one.
