9 year old and police save 4 year old from near drowning.
Police assist, then honor girl who saves dying boy
I was a part of this. We were at the apartment complex for a fight call when someone come running out of the pool screaming a boy drowned. I get there and there no pulse and no breathing. His eyes are open and rolled back and he's lifeless. Sgt Matze starts CPR and the child starts vomiting and choking. I pick him up and we do the Heimlich. He throws up some water and starts coming to. He starts breathing again. He spends 2 days in the hospital but recovered 100%.
The 9 year old girl was swimming and finds him face down at the bottom of the pool. She goes down and gets him and yells for help.
The 9 year old girl and Sgt Matze are true heroes.

What an awesome story!
I love what Sgt. Matze said to the little boy at the ceremony:
"When you grow up, you gotta do something nice for someone, OK?" Matze told him. "And when you grow up and you see me some day, you come find me, and you shake my hand."

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
