Well of course, this makes sense, because Norway has absolutely no customs or way to inspect what is coming into their country.

It sure would have helped their police if they got to use those same "lax American gun laws".

FWIW, once police showed up (armed with automatic weapons at that point) he surrendered with no resistance. I don't think gun laws would have made any difference at all in this case unfortunately, as it was a youth camp where nobody would have had a gun anyways.
Also, this was planned down to every detail. His guns were actually legal, a process that takes a LONG time in Norway..
The biggest criticism in this case was the response time for police to get to the scene and how the early calls were handled. 112 operators (police emergency number in Norway) are reported to have taken only calls related to the bomb and several calls were made from the island before a response was sent. It then took almost 90 minutes to travel the 20 miles from downtown Oslo to Utøya. No helicopter was available, and when they got to the lake, no boat was available...Alpha Phi Sigma Alum - Alpha Delta Chapter

Any cop in this country could have been the first responded and stopped this from the get go. Why not? There should have been an armed adult responsible for the children. There was this summer at my son's scout camp, I was there helping.
All the more reason for armed cops to put a stop to it immediately, not an hour later after hand wringing bureaucrats give their approval to unlock the guns and take them out.
There was a cop on scene guarding the camp when this started. Being unarmed he was nothing but a victim. Arm the cops. Simple. This should have ended before it started.
Waiting for armed specialists is insanity. That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

Change of setting and change of type people and you have Ft. Hood TX all over again. or Lubys in Texas, or Littleton CO, or.....One nut with a gun he knows how to use, and no one able to cancel his act due to some stupid socialist gun bans. Being PC will get you nothing. Here comes McCarthy with all her bird bran / LSD logic so she blames someone completely out of the arena.
Norway has retreated from the lessons they learned circa 1940-45 at the hands of the Nazis and Mr.Quisling. As we have retreated from 9/11 lessons learned. As for this incident, the politicians bought into the noble "victim" role, and bought into the "guns are bad" argument so if we get rid of the guns, we will all be good people. Bullshit. There are criminals who support them for a safer work environment It's called denial, "we are nice, so everyone around us must be nice". Group hug time. Norway has chosen to believe all people are nice and they got burned. t's not just Norway..............
Somewhere there has to be a random armed presence able to respond when the rule book gets tossed. US military branches and installations should allow carry of service firearms by all military personnel assigned to carry weapons within their MOS. A soldier in that Ft Hood clinic with his/her issue M-4 or M-9 could have ended it. NCO and Officers should carry a handgun, on or off duty. We trust them with nuclear weapons, mega million aircraft, subs and haze gray ships of the line, and big guns, real big guns, yet base CO's are ordered not to trust these same people with use and carry of small arms around the facility. what is wrong with this picture? That unarmed "security"cop in Norway was useless, yet an armed soldier at Ft Hood, an armed teacher at a school, or armed passenger on the train when McCarthy';s husband was shot; an armed presence as randomly there as the crook, and not identified; can pop up and end it right now. That's the whole idea behind the Air Marshals.
Murder is against the law, when the murderer has, or is engaged in killing they are outside the law, by unlawful force they exclude the law and the book gets tossed. Two centered shots into the bad guy's head, the rule of law is restored. Homicide is justifiable when in the act of protecting your life or lives of others.
As long as liberals "warp" their thinking and scream for "justice" for predators, and place welfare of predators before the citizens, they are acting like Nazis or Communists. They protect their dogmas and dialectics and their Disneyland view of life, before they protect innocent people. Their "system" is superior to the common good of the nation, we are silent or intimidated by PC, and now we are seeing this "wrong way justice in our face" now. Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same.-- Anonymous

I have absolutely no interest in changing our laws on the off chance it might slightly inconvenience a mass murderer in another country.

Interesting comments but the point of the story is a US MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES is placing the blame on the US; not some foreign entity.
