U.S. Senators request MLB ban smokeless tobacco from World Series
On the eve of the World Series, four Democratic Senators Dick Durbin (IL), Frank Lautenberg (NJ), Tom Harkin (IA) and Richard Blumenthal (CT) have sent a letter to the Major League Baseball Players Association calling on it to ban the use of all tobacco products on the field, in the dugout, and in the clubhouse at MLB ballparks.
Their argument is an expected 15 million viewers - including many children - will be watching the 2011 World Series. "Unfortunately, as these young fans root for their favorite teams and players, they also will watch their on-field heroes use smokeless tobacco products," wrote the Senators.

Mixed feelings. On the one hand, they're grown ups, entitled to act like grown ups. On another hand, it's a filthy, disgusting, unhealthy habit that doesn't need to be glorified to kids. (No idea how I managed not to get hooked or even try it, considering the prevalence among friends in HS...) On a third hand -- every tobacco addiction is literally hell to break, having watched enough people deal with it.
And, of course, I gotta wonder whether there isn't something just a tad more pressing -- LIKE THE FREAKIN' BUDGET AND ECONOMY -- that should be a little more prominent in the agendas for Congress.Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

if Josh Hamilton quits dipping and, as a result, can't hit worth a damn because of withdrawl, I am going to come unglued. Maybe work on that in the offseason, not during the World Series.
