Police appeal after wire 'trap' injures biker

Nottinghamshire Police – Police appeal after wire 'trap' injures biker

Police have issued an appeal for information after a length of wire tied across a Kirkby-in-Ashfield footpath badly injured a motorcyclist.
The 33-year-old man fell from his bike and sustained a broken collar bone after striking the wire, which had been tied at head height between a tree and a fence post across the path that links Oddicroft Lane and Penny Emma Way.
The incident, which happened at around 3.30pm on Friday 21 October, is not the first instance of a wire being tied across this particular footpath. A member of the public reported in June that a wire had been strung dangerously from one side of the path to the other.
Detective Sergeant John Wadden said: “This is an incredibly reckless thing to do and it has resulted in a serious injury. It could have been so much worse. Fortunately the rider saw the wire as he approached and was able to duck a little, but was unable to avoid contact.
