Man Charged after Stopping Burglary
A New Hampshire man who fired his handgun into the ground to scare an alleged burglar he caught crawling out of a neighbor's window is now facing a felony charge -- and the same potential prison sentence as the man he stopped.

I would love to hear the rest of this story. There has GOT to be more to it than a simple discharge into the ground. I understand it's not a good idea but a felony? Wow.

Correct me where I have the process wrong - to be charged just means he was arrested and the officers filed charges which now go to the County Attorney. Yes, elementary stuff, but I've watched too many TV shows over the years so reality and what I think I know are two different things (like firing a warning shot is a good idea because that's how Bat Masterson did it on NBC). Since the thief was caught in an unusual manner it's due diligence to do everything to the letter to ensure shitbird goes away for awhile, and don't give his attorney anything to work with, yeah?
Edit : On second thought, after reading some quotes today from the County Attorney, I'm no longer so confident this will be slap on the wrist and a pat on the back for Mr Fleming. Still hoping so though.

So next time, no warning shot, just shoot him. Gotcha.

I wonder if thecharges were dropped because of political pressure?
