New Cars
The other day it was announced that the city will buy 500 new Ford Interceptors both sedans and Suv's. Currently our fleet consists of a mix of Chevy 2x4 Tahoe's, Crown Vics, and Chevy Impalas. Last month our whopping 1% raise kicked in glad to see where the rest of my raise went into. Any other Department have these Interceptors yet?

We are supposedly getting chargers also. Told the bosses no thanks. I'll keep my vic or give me an SUV. Some of the young guys are crying for them because they look cool.

I know several of the MSP drive instructors that do the testing for police cars and they said they were pretty impressed with both the new fords, and the new caprice. They said they were right up on par performance wise with the chargers. The caprice has a higher top speed, granted it's only 2 MPH faster and at that speed 152 probably feels just like 154.
I do like the looks of the chargers myself, but what do I care I drive a truck, that handles like a truck and is very slow, top speed of about 99, if I'm going down hill.
Here is a link to MSP's webpage about the vehicle testing.

Then here's the testing PDF, they do a pretty good job. They have all sorts of info on each vehicle tested.

I like the Chevy Tahoe but the ones the city bought were only 2 x 4, and during last years blizzard we could not drive down the side streets without getting our butts stuck in the snow. The highlight of that night was getting pulled out of the snow by a passing city garbage truck
.
This time the new Mayor is making sure we get 4 x 4's or Awd vehicles we will wait and see" The hardest thing about disarming an armed suspect is not slipping on your own shit "

Nope...not yet. We're suppose to be looking at the Caprice Classics vs the Tahoes. Caprice is about $3000. more to our dept, but there seems to be a "public perception" issue with LE driving around in Tahoes.

We have a few Caprices on the roads, all the supervisors are getting Tahoe's, and a few different types of other cars have been bought to try out to see what we like best. Should be interesting!
