OCEANSIDE A motorist ran away from a road-rage incident with a tow truck driver yesterday, then kept law officers busy for more than an hour as they searched for him in an Oceanside Boulevard shopping center.

A security guard finally found the 25-year-old man behind a building and handcuffed him to a fence, Oceanside police Lt. Rick Sing said.
The California Highway Patrol booked the man in connection with a hit-and-run collision and a dispute with two men in the tow truck.

The CHP said the motorist and the tow truck driver were involved in a fender-bender on the Oceanside Boulevard off-ramp from northbound Interstate 5 about 4 p.m.

The man reportedly battered the tow operator and passenger, threatened them with a stun gun, and ran off as a CHP officer pulled up.

CHP and Oceanside police officers poured into the area for the next hour.
