The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that federal prison authorities in Missouri can continue to give Jared Lee Loughner psychiatric drugs in a bid to try him for the Jan. 8, 2011, shooting in Tucson that killed six people and wounded the former Democratic congresswoman and 12 others. The court dismissed three separate appeals.

Doctors say that Loughner, 23, suffers from schizophrenia but that his condition is improving.
