SAN MARCOS – Palomar College has hired its first female police officer.

Officer Monika Forest was sworn in Tuesday night and will start her job May 22. Forest will be involved in the new classes in self-defense against rape aggression for students and staff members, expected to start in November.
She is now a police officer at California State University San Marcos and graduated from the Sacramento Police Academy in 2003.

Before starting her career in law enforcement, Forest earned a biology degree from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and is a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover, Germany
