Come on Five-O , have a heart. Why should she spend her hard earned money on something as expensive as food? Watch the video. She obviously isn't in any kind of shape to do something like get a job like a stupid taxpayer.

Wrote up one of my usual wordy replies, boiled it down. State profited more than it'll pay in 333 years.

There are a lot more important issues to pay attention to. I'm throwing a media distraction flag on the play.

I have a couple that are regular customers on are on foodstamps. They won a good sized lottery jackpot. They squandered it in no time. We might as well keep giving them assistance because they keep spending it as fast as the get it. Great stimulus plan, eh? Who cares if they are rude, illiterate, poor hygiene, drug addled and such. They make up a big chunk of my paycheck!

And as a federal judge once told me in her chamber. "We make our money right there." pointing towards the courtroom. "We need to keep busy!"

So keep on busting the users, delivery system, the manufacturers, the courts need money!

I can't sum my thoughts up any better. I'm fine with a welfare recipient playing the lotto. I'm fine with them winning. I think the benefits should have been stopped immediately, but at least she, for all intents and purposes, paid her own way. She paid more in taxes on this than she will ever receive.

well - now that she won all that money - give the state the taxes (and they get paid back what they've paid her) and cut her off...

both win - she should get some investment advice and figure out how to use that money...

we all know she won't... but that's besides the point - she has the opportunity, and the state should cut her off forever...

it will probably be funny when she files taxes next year tho

I am truly not believing what I am reading...

State profited more than it'll pay in 333 years.
Wha? Seriously? Since when is it the State's mandate to profit from anything? How can any organization, public or private, actually be considered to have profited while operating at record deficits? Is that new math? Isn't the State's role to serve the people, not itself? A properly run government, (in the perfect world) actually functions to break even. That is the goal. Since when are assistance programs intended to support those not in need of assistance? Is this what we've come to? States that are expected to profit and aid programs legitimately benefiting those who do not need it? Why yes, that's exactly it! And it is what real conservatives have been saying all along. That is the entire intent of the Socialist.

Entitlement programs are massive vote buys. Nothing more, nothing less. How ironic that a State program for food assistance to needy families has gone so awry, that the government must pass a law to disqualify someone from receiving assistance when they no longer need it. It defies all common sense, but then again, we've left common sense in the dirt years ago...

I think the benefits should have been stopped immediately, but at least she, for all intents and purposes, paid her own way...
Has she really? Over the course of her lifetime, the taxpayers will have paid to support her, her children, and, if statistics prove out, the circle will be ever-expanding. Yes, the amount paid in assistance programs recently reached some $774.7 Billion per year... now, let us add in the salaries of those paid to serve, administrate, and oversee the actual programs... wait... can't do that? Am I being "unfair?"

This woman abuses the system, publicly, and there is nothing more than a "moral" obligation for her to cease receiving benefits... what does this teach? How many more out there are making the difficult "moral" decisions to break the cycle of public assistance and strive in the workplace, rather than watch Maury Povich and wait by the mailbox for a living?

Of course there are cases where assistance granted by the State has been a benefactor in securing the welfare of a family under temporary circumstances of duress. Of course, there are success stories where the recipients have broken the cycle of poverty through the opportunities granted in this country and made a good, even superb living after beginnings bolstered by aid programs. For those, I say, bravo! That is what these programs should produce. However, the truth remains that they are not the norm. And, I dare say that in the manner in which these programs are conceived, administrated, and rampantly abused, we continue to penalize success and reward failure. We continue to foster a nation by the entitlement, of the entitlement, and for the entitled.

Media distraction card? Puh-lease. If the media were more inclined to actually report facts and not go jumping from sensationalism to sensationalism, they would see the Escalades and Cadillac CTS coupes parked in the projects. They would see the 52" flat screen TV's inside, the dogs fed ground beef (because you can't buy dog food on food stamps, of course), and the bedroom floors overflowing with designer label clothing. They would also see so many of the "poor and entitled" in this nation basking in lifestyles far and away exceeding the expectations of the working classes, while the "working poor" (once referred to as the middle class, pre-mortem) bearing the brunt of every government mandate, regulation, and "program" set to pander votes from those who do not legitimately earn by their work efforts enough to have paid anything but taxes on sales, gambling, and lottery winnings.

Again, it is the season of the used car extravaganza, as those who pay -0- into the system land windfalls amounting to three to four hard-worked months by those who choose to actually work for their living. "Earned income credit?" Bullshit. Yet another vote buy. Another scam. Another means by which to allow the precepts of democracy in America to be perverted so that the elitists can remain in power while extorting the workers. It will end, mind you... but not before there is no more to steal, and nothing left with to buy... Then: Chaos. Those too foolish to study man's history will indeed be doomed to repeat it.

I just want to puke. Foolish, foolish people. Wake up!

Yeah, and taxes aren't just a big pile of money that the government draws out of. Most dollars are allocated to resources before they're even collected. There's no way of knowing how much of the taxes she paid actually go toward public assistance. And even if all of it went, it doesn't give her license to keep drawing money.

She has met the requirements to be a liberal Democrat, with one exception; she should have a lawyer answering for her. Like most bottom feeders, her money is our money. She manages money like a politician.

CB brings up several good points that the reporter should have investigated, but she didn't. What we have here is a "shark attack" story, one that is great for grabbing the viewer's attention even though the actual threat is a statistical novelty. A shark attack is no laughing matter if you're one of the five people in the world who becomes lunch for Jaws each year. Are there that many million dollar welfare lottery queens? If it's common, well I would like to know.

Even that question wasn't asked by the reporter. We get no data at all, though we find out there are two bills to force the lottery commission to report to the state. Wait, the state requires a law so it can talk to itself? Why is a bill necessary, why won't a phone call work? Again, not asked. Is it modifying a privacy law, if so, what other consequ...nope, not asked. Instead all we get is the shocking revelation that people steal. I can't wait for next month's groundbreaking exposť "Water, did you know it's wet?"

One of the items I dropped from my original long post was that of course she shouldn't be taking the money and should be investigated for fraud while Representative Zorn should be looking for ways to save the taxpayers more money than rounding errors. Like the Channel 4 report, it seemed too trivially obvious to be worth airing. The story pissed me off too, for a different reason.

Incidentally, I read a follow up a couple days ago that confirmed the state has now cut her off. No doubt some windbag will use this as an opportunity to create legislation where policy should be changed.

Pretty sure she has. I've been working since I was 16 and I know I haven't paid $200,000 in taxes. Obviously her tax money has been spread around, but still. At least in this case, she paid more in taxes then she has received.
