Raid on Toulouse shooting suspect - France

BBC News - France shootings: Police lay siege to Toulouse suspect

Police hunting a gunman suspected of killing seven people in southern France are laying siege to a flat in Toulouse.
The man, named as Mohammed Merah, 24, a Frenchman of Algerian origin, has said he belongs to al-Qaeda and acted to "avenge Palestinian children".
Police are negotiating with the man, who is still said to be armed but says he may give himself up this afternoon.
French Interior Minister Claude Gueant said the man had been tracked by French intelligence for "several years".
The brother of the suspect has been arrested in another part of Toulouse, with several other relatives also reported detained.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has made a televised address, paying tribute to the security forces who are carrying out the operation and stressing that terrorism should not be allowed to divide France.
The man shot at the door after police arrived, Mr Gueant said, injuring one officer in the knee and "lightly injuring" another.
    GIGN time I think.

Little international studies needed on my part, I just learned GIGN is Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale. Their specialty is hostage situations and terrorism if what I read lead me right. GIGN indeed, safe and successful mission to our French friends in this.

From what I hear he has no hostages. So I suggest an explosive entry, with just a little too much explosive.

France, Toulouse Stand-Off: Gunman Mohammed Merah Wants To Die With Weapons In His Hands: Minister | World News | Sky News

A suspected gunman holed up in a flat in the French city of Toulouse is reportedly dead after police stormed the property to end a 30-hour siege.

Bursts of gunfire were heard at the scene of a stand-off between officers and Mohammed Merah, who allegedly killed seven people including three schoolchildren.
Merah reportedly wanted to "die with weapons in his hands" and the building where he was besieged was surrounded by hundreds of police.
Police sources said officers were moving "step-by-step" through the ground floor property amid concerns it could be booby-trapped.

Good. Cheaper than a trial. Hope the injured officers make a full recovery.
