Mega Millions hopefuls flock to buy tickets for biggest jackpot ever
More here: http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/30/us/meg...ons/index.htmlhistoric $640 million jackpot is up for grabs Friday as the Mega Millions lottery is living up to its name.
If there is no winner Friday, the jackpot would increase to an estimated $975 million, said Athena Hernandez of the D.C. lottery. That drawing would occur Tuesday.
The multistate jackpot, which lottery officials are calling "the largest lottery jackpot in world history," has captivated the nation, has caused long lines at convenience stores and has many dreaming of creative ways to quit their jobs if they get the lucky numbers.

"...You are about 50 times as likely to get struck by lightning as to win the lottery, based on the 90 people a year getting struck by lightning... Based on other U.S. averages, you're about 8,000 times more likely to be murdered than to win the lottery, and about 20,000 times more likely to die in a car crash than hit the lucky numbers..."

With that said, I did get a ticket. You can't win if you don't play, right?

Somebody here said that you were more likely to get hit by lightning while being bitten by an alligator than win the lottery. Someone else said "You ever play golf in Florida?"

I don't play the lotto but I think I may buy 1 ticket for this today. If I win I am giving the site to Jenna.

Yeah, I broke down and bought 5 bucks worth. If I win, next year in DC is on me!

a group of us at work chipped in. After taxes, if my math is right, It'll be a nice chunk of change. I also bought some for myself. Either way it'll be more money than i'll ever need.

They had said around 10p Eastern that every single possible number combination had been purchased, making it certain that someone(s) would win this jackpot. Now they say winning tickets were sold in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland. I bought 5 tickets, but only got one number right on three of my five sets of numbers. Oh well, you gotta try when it gets that high.

I was going to give it a shot, but I figured, "What the heck! I don't really need it."

I've never bought so much as a scratch off lottery ticket in my life. That streak didn't end for this.

Somebody somewhere had to win. It was worth a dollar or ten.

Winning the lottery isn't always a good thing. Maybe those who didn't win are the lucky ones!

I'll go on record in public here saying that I welcome the problems of winning the biggest lotto jackpot in history. Is that good enough to tempt fate? hehe
Though a by-product of this jackpot is the revealing that some states let you claim your mega millions jackpot anonymously, and some states don't. The winner(s) in Illinois aren't allowed to be anonymous, but the ones in Kansas and Maryland are. Though I still think you can just create a new company/incorporation, and have the company claim the jackpot prize. But then someone can probably still dig up who is the person behind it. But by then I'd be long gone. hehehe
