Two Alaska State Troopers Shot
On Sunday, June 17, 2012, at approximately 9:00 am, two Alaska State Troopers responded with an officer from the Kotzebue Police Department to a call in the City of Kotzebue, Alaska. The call was generated after the driver of a pickup truck, who had struck a guard rail, pointed a firearm at a passerby. When the Troopers and Officer arrived, they were immediately shot at by the occupant of the vehicle. One trooper was seriously injured and the other was either grazed or struck by shrapnel. After a lengthy standoff, the suspect was discovered dead in the vehicle. The suspect was identified as Arvid Nelson Jr. and it looked as if he was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot injury.
The seriously injured Trooper was airlifted to a hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. He was in serious, but stable condition. The other was treated locally and released.

SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM-Ex-Sheriff Martin Howe to Will Kane in "High Noon"
"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.
