Scalia: Guns May be Regulated
It was bound to happen.
Justice Antonin Scalia, one of the Supreme Court's most vocal and conservative justices, said on Sunday that the Second Amendment leaves room for U.S. legislatures to regulate guns, including menacing hand-held weapons.
"It will have to be decided in future cases," Scalia said on Fox News Sunday. But there were legal precedents from the days of the Founding Fathers that banned frightening weapons which a constitutional originalist like himself must recognize. There were also "locational limitations" on where weapons could be carried, the justice noted.

I wonder what the definition of "frightening weapons" or "menacing hand-held weapons" would be...

There will be a sudden flood of pastel colored weapons flooding the market soon, with teddy bears or hearts engraved on them. Then they will be banned for appealing to children.

Scalia's mouth runneth over.... unless he is commenting on an actual case, he's showing his ego & bias on something that hasn't passed under his nose and properly ruled upon by the other 8 supremes.

I'm watching the rerun now of the interview. There's nothing ominous about it. He's explaining interpretation of law and the book he just wrote about that. In that context he's saying that some gun regulation can be reasonable and constitutional. He wouldn't say anything specific, even when pressed about guns that can "fire 100 rounds in a minute."
He is definitely Scalia and gave it good to the interviewer and others.
I think the media is reading into his comments as if it were an invitation for gun control, it really wasn't.That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

I would love for someone to explain how banning assault rifles or whatever gun is going to matter. There are 300 million or so guns in this country...good luck taking them away. Cause it sure is hell won't be me going door to door to do it. And stopping the sale of new ones is not only stupid (since there are already millions available) but will effectively destroy an industry, which employs alot of people. I hate it when people have extreme knee jerk reactions.

The other day, I happened to be watching Bill Oreily talking to a republican senator about this. Bill had no idea what he was talking about. He thought all gun purchases should result in the buyers information being sent to the FBI. He thought and argued with the senator that anyone could walk into a gun show or gun shop and walk out with a fully automatic rifle no questions asked.
When the senator tried to explain the purpose of the ATF and class 3 weapons restrictions, Bill kept cutting him off saying it wasn't true. All it does is make the point that an uninformed public makes bad policy.
