2 dead, 8 injured in shooting near Empire State Building in Manhattan, police say
DEVELOPING: Two people were shot dead and eight others wounded whena gunman opened fire near the Empire State Building in Manhattan, authorities said.
A law enforcement source told Fox News that the gunman, described as security guard, was a disgruntled employee who was fired Thursday from his job at a location either inside the Empire State Building or near it.
Authorities said the victims were shot just after 9 a.m. Friday and that the gunman was killed by police. A second law enforcement source told Fox News that one of the victims has died.
The FBI confirmed to FoxNews.com that they were on the scene investigating.
A security guard said he heard seven or eights shots fired in the shooting, which occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.
