Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer fights off a bear with his bare hands
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police says an off-duty police officer successfully beat away a medium-sized bear, saving himself and his two dogs from serious injury yesterday.
The unidentified RCMP officer was jogging with his two dogs yesterday morning at 10 Mile Lake north of Quesnel when the dogs encountered the bear.
A police account of the incident suggests the officer kicked the bear after it began to threaten one of the dogs. The dogs and officer together scared off the bear, which retreated into the bush.
The officer then walked to Highway 97, where a passing vehicle took him to the G.R. Baker Hospital in Quesnel.
He was treated for a number of puncture and claw wounds before being released.
His identity is not being revealed at his request.

Was he "French" Canadian?
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.
