Well I've never had to shoot a dog, fortunately. I would if I honestly felt I needed to, but thus far I've never felt it was necessary.
I watched the video, and I'm not crazy about it. The dog was on a catch pole. I've used those before...they give you quite a bit of control if you have the strength to hold them. The clip is short, but it looks like the AC officer maybe was losing control of the dog, which led to it being shot. So all in all, I'd say the shoot is probably justified...but barely.
I think shooting a dog on a catch pole is similar to using hard empty hand or a higher level use of force a handcuffed suspect. You better be able to articulate it very well.
Total none story it's just a dog buy a new one and keep it safe in your yard or garden.
I have never seen the point of keeping pet dogs especially when they go on to kill children, I'd ban all but working dogs thats probably quite an extreme view but I believe based on sound logic and much more sensible that some of the anti-gun and enviromental arguments which are accepted by the public and politicians.
Back in the 60 when I was running AWOL apprehension in Georgia, my partner and I were in Milledgeville (sic) picking up some deserters. We were talking to the chief when you could shear a bunch of shooting in the distance. The Chief yelled to his secretary "who the hell is doing all the shooting." The secretary yelled back, "the
SGT and his buddy are shooting dogs on the south side of town." The Chief says to us, "Alls in a days work, down here."
This whole thing sounds like a set up. Complainant tells police the dog is being aggressive. Records the incident. Then tells the media he never said that. I'm wondering if the dog was too much for the owner to handle and they planned this thing out.
Regardless, police should use the 911 recording and the media tape as evidence and charge him with false statements.
Wouldn't surprise me. Got an impression of that myself.
When I feel like stirring I casually mention to people that dogs will be illegal as pets in 20 years. Sadly I'm starting to actually think it's true.
Tell the same people their daughters will be naked on the internet within 15. So far that prediction is ahead of schedule.
The caller is a complete liar and should be charged. The last time I checked dogs bark. It's what they do.
I have shot one dog. A pit bull that was running loose in my neighborhood. I tried to avoid it but when it turned to attack me I put 2 rounds in it. Was down but still alive when animal control finally showed up. Fought the officer as he was trying to put it in a transport cage. I put one round in the chest and one round in the head. I felt extremely bad when I realized the rounds didn't kill the animal. Unless the officer was indeed losing control of the dog I couldn't shoot it on a catch pole.
Some people can easily shoot dogs and cats and the like. I'm not one of those people. Shooting is only when I believe the animal is going to attack or has attacked and I can see or show that. I don't have to like it but I'll do it.
"I put one round in the chest"
you did not have your step ladder, did you?
It was a leaping ballet move. You should have seen it.
