Yep. Although the interview itself is speculative I can see this happening. Why enslave with violence when you can do it through regulation.

I've read some things that the plan is to expand the term "semi auto" to include all sorts of things.

Technically, a revolver could be termed "semi auto" if you're creative. Basically we'd be down to single shot guns

No more or less than any of the other mainstream media outlets. Besides, they aren't making the claim, they are interviewing a guy who says he's talked to "unnamed" sources in the administration. It's the credibility of the guy being interviewed that's at stake.

It wouldn't surprise me but I doubt that it's legitimate. Has the administration discussed this? Probably but I doubt they'd go through with it. It's too overt and antagonistic. It would likely trigger violence or a huge fight with congress as the ATF budget gets stripped in response. I think what we'll see is more underhanded like defunding the FBI background check system making it extremely difficult to get approved. Or something like requiring ID numbers on ammunition, banning reloading, or cigarette levels of taxes.
