New Recruits Face Pay Cut

For the few forces that are actually recruiting new officers(a rare event) New recruits are facing a reduction of £4,000 a year to a starting salary of £19,000.
Good way to encourage the best candidates, I think not.

Well they have to find the money to pay the new Police and Crime Commissioners from somewhere.

That is an interesting thought. If a US citizen moves to the UK, could they join the local constabulary? Or must you be a UK born citizen? Also, is it hard to learn the language? (Just kidding!)

And, of course, of that £19000 they will pay 14% of that into the pension!

That was my starting pay at my first department 10 years ago.

That's starting pay at my department now ($31,100). But, Kentucky is 10 years behind the rest of the nation in everything else so I guess that's about right...
