I've known Mr Jesse for about 30 years and I consider him family. Though all of his adversity, I've never seen him in a bad mood and he is constantly joking at me. Every day just getting up and getting going is a challenge and he meets it head-on. He is proof to me that you can meet adversity head-on and beat it with attitude.
Peanut Salesman with Cerebral Palsy: 30 Years in the Business
JACKSON, MS - A peanut salesman is celebrating a special anniversary at the Mississippi Trade Mart on Saturday: 30 years in the business.
News Channel 12's Jacob Kittilstad shows us why it was even harder for this 77-year-old to break out of his shell.
It takes a day and a half for Jesse Houston to make his peanut supply - using a roaster on the peanuts he bought in Ridgeland.
And Houston, who's had cerebral palsy since birth, has the process down. He said he honed his skills years back while selling at Jackson Mets games in the 80s.
...And people say they notice there's not a speck of negativity in the man who until age 14 had to scoot on his knees to get around.
