Police officer buys groceries for woman accused of shoplifting

Miami-Dade Police Officer Vicki Thomas was asked to arrest Jessica Robles after employees at an Ojus, Fla., supermarket saw her steal food, WSVN reported.

Thomas asked Robles why she did it, and she responded that her children were hungry. Thomas ran a check on Robles, saw that there was no major criminal history in her background. She charged her with a misdemeanor and gave her a notice to appear in court.

Then, Thomas took Robles to buy groceries.

Good for her. I hope it doesn't go to waste.

PGG - I am leaning toward the latter. I suppose I am pessimistic because most of the shoplifters I've caught had much more money in their pockets than needed to pay for whatever they stole. Not to mention the NYPD boots story from last year...

In any event PO Thomas did a very kind thing, and she deserves our praise.

The officer did do a very kind thing. In another article that I read about this (linked below), the officer said that she needed to do her job but she also needed to help her (the shoplifter). My first thought was similar to yours, HudsonHawk - I hope the woman didn't somehow waste the officer's generosity. And I hope that she and her family will always remember what Officer Thomas did for them.

I'm also pessemistic but wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt
