Des Moines to Denver flight makes unplanned landing in Omaha
My Mom and brother from California were flying to California this past Monday night. I assumed all went well, until I got this email. Just like in the movies!
Mom and I finally made it to L.A. at noon today - only 4 hours of flight time but it took 3 days. On our flight to Denver the pilot had a heart attack and lost consciousness, and we made an emergency landing in Omaha. It was a bit worrisome when the stewardesses first asked if there was a doctor aboard (no, but 2 nurses handled the situation), then if there was a pilot aboard (there was an Air Force pilot onboard, not trained for this particular aircraft but able to be copilot to the first officer). So we stayed overnight in Omaha and flew to Denver the next day, but couldn't get a flight to L.A., all flights sold out and overbooked. Our reservations to fly out today were screwed up, the computer system thought that we had reservations on an earlier flight and cancelled our reservations on the flight that we had boarding passes for. We were also told that our bags were checked in all the way to L.A., then that they were in Denver and we had to get them from baggage claim and recheck them in, then that they already on an earlier flight to L.A., so I was running back and forth between the gate and baggage claim and got caught in a very long and slow security line and only made it to the gate with 8 minutes to spare. But we made it and are driving to see Valerie tomorrow.
