Modesto Police Department destroys officer's personal firearms
This is weird. Being a gun collector it also makes me want to cry. Thank god I'm a cop in Idaho.

If that was me they would say oh it's all revolvers. Call Cordell and ask him if he wants them.
I would then get a smart-ass phone call asking if I was donating the guns to the department - or something like that.
However I also don't keep my guns in a locker at work. Sometimes I'll store my favorites in the gun vault, but that's because I'm one of a few people that has access to the vault. But when I get back from my vacation I go and bring them back home and put them in my gun safe. Also my lieutenant knows that I'm storing some of my favorites in the vault when on vacation. Anyway it's a weird situation. I think you need to read in-between the lines.

Putting your own personal property into any Department storage is foolish.
For any length of time.
