65 year old cop, or so he thought I guess. I'm just glad an arrest was made on location so some innocent person wasn't accused of it later.

Police: Fake Officer Arrested After Pulling Over Deputy

Man Restrained With His Own Handcuffs, Officer Says

INDIANAPOLIS -- A man pretending to be a police officer was arrested after he pulled over an off-duty sheriff's deputy who was in his personal vehicle, authorities said.

James Merket, driving a car with police gear and emergency lights, stopped a vehicle containing Marion County sheriff's Cpl. Clayton Willis and his family on an interstate Sunday, police said.

Police said Merket, who was not in a uniform, identified himself as a state policeman and asked Willis whether he was in a hurry. Willis decided Merket was an imposter after a brief conversation, and when Merket returned to his car, Willis followed him, police said.

When the two got to Merket's car, Merket changed his story, according to Willis.

"He stated, 'Hey, I lied to you. I'm not a police officer,'" Willis said. "So, I grabbed his wrist, escorted him out of the vehicle and put his hands on his roof. I then took his weapon from him and proceeded to handcuff him with his cuffs, ironically enough."

Merket, 65, faces charges of impersonating a public servant and unlawful use of a police radio, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.

Merket was released on $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court May 24.

There's nothing in his car that's really illegal. Except perhaps having the emergency lights actually installed, but even that that varies from state to state in the USA. And it's all easy to obtain.

It's illegal to use the car and equipment in the manner in which he used it.

Sorry, but it's true!

Also, I know if you go to the Galls Warehouse sales that they have year round, you can buy a lot of the emergency equipment without having any type of Police ID. (unless they changed it this year) I went to Kentucky to one of the sales and bought a bunch of police gear, bought a stinger for like $20, no battery, but bought a battery for $25, so all in all it was half price! Works great still have it! There was a bunch of guys up there buying the lights and they told them they couldnt use them in some states, but the guys bought them anyways. You can also order all that stuff from the internet just about anywhere now!
