NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A single mother of three, furious that three armed men broke into her home with her children inside, braved gunfire that flattened a tire on her vehicle as she chased them and foiled their getaway, police said.

“We always warn people that they just never know if a suspect is armed,” North Las Vegas Police spokesman Tim Bedwell said of the 28-year-old woman, whose name wasn't released. “In this case, she knew they were armed and she went after them anyway.”

The 5-foot-2-inch woman dialed 911 from her cell phone while following the suspects' gold Chevrolet Malibu about 12:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
As she followed, one or more of the men in the getaway car shot out one of the tires on the woman's Cadillac Escalade, forcing her to stop.

Police picked up the chase, and three men then left the car and tried to run away. Jerry Edwards, 42, and Steven Norwood, 38, both of North Las Vegas, were quickly arrested.

A third man, Cortrayer Zone, 28, of North Las Vegas, ran to a nearby home and climbed into a child's bedroom, police said. The child's mother ran outside, screaming, and two North Las Vegas police officers stormed the house and arrested Zone at gunpoint, Bedwell said. The child wasn't harmed.

The mother of three children – ages 11, 7 and 4 – said the gunmen terrorized her children before taking a small home safe. The safe was found in the Chevrolet.

Police said the arrested men were career criminals.
