Both the woman driving the stolen SUV and the man inside were killed in the crash. 9NEWS at Noon. May 26, 2006.
A Larimer County Sheriff's Deputy stopped the car for a traffic violation at 3:17 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Mulberry and Shields in Fort Collins. After the driver stopped the car, the vehicle left the scene and a pursuit followed.
Officials said the pursuit reached speeds of about 70 mph. Officers blocked off intersections from through traffic to prevent the pursuit from weaving through residential neighborhoods, the sheriff's office said.
At one of the city's busiest intersections, Mulberry and Lemay, the driver of the car swerved around a motorcyclist, lost control, hit a deputy's car, smashed into a light post and overturned.
Police said the driver was a woman and the passenger, a man. Both were killed on impact, officials said. The deputy whose vehicle was hit was not inside at the time and was not hurt.
No deputies or members of the public were injured in the pursuit, according to the sheriff's office.
Following the crash, police confirmed the car was stolen from Centennial on March 11.
Fort Collins officials will investigate the crash Friday.

The perfect ending. Good night, fuckers."If anything worthwhile comes of this tragedy, it should be the realization by every citizen that often the only thing that stands between them and losing everything they hold dear... is the man wearing a badge." -- Ronald Reagan, in the wake of the deaths of 4 CHP troopers in the Newhall Incident, 1970
