Student who brought gum to school suspended for violating drug policy
LOWER BURRELL, Pa. -- A Lower Burrell school student is facing a three-day suspension for sharing gum with a classmate.
Jolt chewing gum has caffeine and ginseng.
The Lower Burrell school superintendent said consuming and passing out the gum violates the school's drug awareness policy. That's because caffeine is considered a stimulant.
Parents told Channel 11 they did not understand the suspension.
Resident Elizabeth Grombacher said, "I think it's stupid. Everything's getting too politically correct it's so wrong."
"It's probably just like Mountain Dew or something like that. If it's got a lot of caffeine in it and they probably sell the pop at school,” parent Nita Serene said.
Jolt chewing gum is sold over the counter at drug stores and vitamin distributors.

So do I just invite the unpopular kids or the whole fucking school?

I heard this on Denver's 850KOA am talk/news. They did some research apparently and found that the school has pop machines with CAFFEINE COLAS! Sounds like the same dummies who run Congress have infiltrated the schools!

Hmm this school has caffiene drink machines, too? I wonder then if they also participate in those fundraisers where the kids go around selling chocolate candy bars...at least the gum was free!

I got a courtesy call from my daughter's school, claiming
she had been observed purchasing soft drinks EVERY day.
I told them to mind their own gawd dayum business.
Personally, I think it was just a prank call. The number
was blocked out on caller ID, and any other time calls
from the school aren't blocked out.

A bit on the extreme side there, glad they're wasting time dealing with that when other problems likely exist.

The results of this poll should be sent to the Lower Burrell
school superintendent to show him what a real loser he is.

I strongly disagree with the school superintendent's decision.

Just out of curosity, and not to pull anyone out from the crowd, but who voted yes, and what's your reasoning? Just curious.

Glad my daughter's MS is not the only one. They're making something that she supposes to act like "an adult." She's 12. Jeez. What her school has: probation officer, deans (I never have a dean in my junior high before), city assist attorney (yep, she goes to assembly), psa counselor who can threaten a parent with her city assist attorney..nice. Those records are the SCHOOL's responsibility in handling the kids, not outside.
Take a look:
You drop your kid to school, he/she went inside the building, the bell rang, the gates locked up. Every day is the same ritual. She/he get some tardies lock-outs... okay, later in the mail, you receive a letter from her/his school. You opened up the letter, the school labeled your child "truant and if you do not correct this situation, you will be charge $25,000 or send to jail for a year." You always send a child to school and she/he always go into and thus the gates locked. Okay, it turned out, they count the tardies into unexcused absents so they label a child "truant." It's the school's responsibility since a child is IN the school, not OUT of the school like "ditching."
I can't figure many parents won't speak out or stand up. They have the right to stand up or speak-out. They're either scared of the officials who threaten them with their city assist attorneys or the courts, or they're scared that the schools claimed they can take their kids away if they don't shape up. ARGH! This is not a military school nor a communist's school. So I put down everything I know on the survery, I hope they will take a look on it.

The people who write Rules & Regulations for schools should remember that the rules will be administered, in large part, by a bunch of brain-dead ex-liberal arts and Humanity teachers.
These people have no sense of discretion. They think the most important thing on Earth is a book of prose, and the least important thing on Earth is common sense and responsible judgement.
Take any Lawyer joke you've ever heard and apply it to any Liberal Arts or Humanity teacher I've ever known who reached her level of incompetance in school administration - It still fits.
The only school officials I had respect for in my younger years were coaches, math, and science teachers. That attitude hasn't changed much in the last 40 years. I'm sure most school administrators are great people, but I just haven't had any desire to meet any more of them and sort it all out.Last edited by TXCharlie; 05-28-06 at 03:04 PM.
