BARRIO LOGAN – A Texas teenager suffered a severe head injury when his car slammed into a concrete bridge pillar at Interstate 5 and 28th Street yesterday, authorities said.

The 19-year-old's name was not released. He was listed in critical condition at UCSD Medical Center, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP Officer Mark Gregg said investigators don't know why the young man swerved out of southbound lanes about 9:50 a.m. and hit the pillar. Some witnesses reported that he had been speeding. No other cars were involved in the crash.
