NATIONAL CITY The San Diego Police Department is buying about 400 additional Taser guns, which fire electrified barbs and deliver a disabling shock.

The guns cost $369,000. They will be used by the department's critical response teams, specially trained and equipped officers who arrive at critical incidents within 15 minutes.
Police officials said use of Tasers reduces the likelihood of an officer having to use deadly force. The department now will have about 1,000 Taser guns. Joe Hughes
