Three charged in shoot-out

Memphis Police Wednesday night charged three men with attempted murder following Tuesday morning's chase and shooting spree in Cordova.
As they were being pursued by police, the gunmen blasted four police cruisers with assault weapons, barely missing some of the officers.

Although no officers were injured by bullets, at least one was cut by flying glass. Phu Pham, 26, Victor Bach, 22, and Qui Pham, 20, were each charged with seven counts of attempted first-degree murder. Also, Phu Pham, the driver, will be charged with evading arrest.

The incident began about 3 a.m. when an Appling Farms Station lieutenant on patrol spotted a Honda Ridgeline truck parked in front of Dowdle Sports at 981 Germantown, an area police have been watching because of a string of business burglaries. The truck drove off, but the lieutenant got behind, turned on his siren and blue lights and called for backup.

The truck was stopped at 821 Exocet, and the lieutenant saw a rear window open and the barrel of an assault weapon being pointed at him.

When the gunmen opened fire, the lieutenant dropped to the ground while gunfire punched numerous holes in his cruiser. When an officer in a second cruiser showed up, the gunman turned on him and started firing into his squad car. Again the truck took off.

The Honda got on Germantown Parkway and drove south toward Walnut Grove.

There, a man sitting in his black BMW was injured when a bullet went through his front windshield, striking him in the arm. He was not seriously injured.

The chase ended at 529 Forest Hill-Irene, where the three suspects jumped out. Phu Pham was arrested on the spot, and Bach was subdued a short distance away by Shelby County Sheriff's deputies.

Felony Assault Unit officers later identified Qui Pham as the third suspect. Late Wednesday, he turned himself in to the Felony Assault Unit.

Early Friday morning, two men suspected in a home invasion shot at a Memphis police officer and then stole the officer's squad car. When it happened, the officer was trying to detain the two men outside the BP gas station at Shelby Drive and Tulane in Whitehaven.

According to investigators, while the officer was waiting for backup, one of the men attacked the officer, wrestled away the officer's gun and then shot at him. Then that man drove off in the officer's squad car. The other man ran away. He still had the officer's cuffs attached to one of his wrists.

The accused thugs left behind a car that had been stolen from an elderly couple a short time before during a home invasion in the 3600 block of McCorkle. They're also accused of stealing cash from the couple.

The squad car, with all of its contents, including the shotgun, was found a short time later at Kerr and Greenwood.

The officer has minor injuries.

I have a solution to that shit... Instead of chasing them, casually fire one of "Couzin Ronnie's" babies at 'em - It'll destroy them & their car too from a mile away. May cause a bit of collateral damage though if you don't have line of sight

you missed two more shootings that did not make the news. ocu got shot at twice in an apartment complex in south memphis this week.

I think you are right, Trojan. And while that might be a good solution, you got to get the crap heads to be in the right place for the shooter. Someone please remind me again why we all love this job so much that we get paid half of what we could be making and we get shot at by idiots that are going to get off or serve shorts to get out and do it again?

Ok, upon re-examining the ballots, it looks like Trojan is the actual winner... But since you can't have .50 cal's over there the prize if forfieted and I get to keep it

Nope, starts from just north of I-40 to the city of Germantown, ends and restarts a block over, enters Memphis again, then ends and starts again about 4 blocks over, leaves Memphis for the county, then heads farther south to the stateline.

BTW, Will, if you ever get a scud, you will be sure to give all of us a heads up so we can all go on vacation for a few days right? No sense in friendly fire collatoral damage.
