Officer kills dog after being attacked by juvenile
August 6, 2006
FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS
A Chicago Police officer conducting a narcotics mission Sunday afternoon on the West Side fatally shot a dog after being attacked by a juvenile with a blunt object.
The attacks happened on the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue at around 2:33 p.m. when a juvenile came after the Special Operations Section officer with blunt object, reportedly a wooden handle of an axe, and struck the officer on the head, said police News Affairs Officer Kristina Schuler.
A nearby resident then commanded a Rottweiler dog to attack the wounded officer, Schuler said. The officer was in “fear for his safety” and fatally shot the dog. No individuals besides the dog were shot during the incident, Schuler said.
A woman in the area was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with abrasions, but was not shot during the incident, Schuler said.
The officer was taken West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with minor injuries.
Schuler said the juvenile was in police custody, but no charges have been filed. The police were also talking to several people of interest.

Charges weren't filed at the time the article was written. They charged everyone accordingly.
