Teen charged with throwing bleach in cop's face

    August 9, 2006

    FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS

A 17-year-old was charged with throwing a cup of bleach at a Chicago Police officer and another person with whom she was fighting on the West Side on Wednesday morning.

Juanita Bridges, of the 2300 block of West Washington Boulevard, was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer and battery, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. Bridges was slated for an Aug. 16 court date in North Felony Court, he added.

The 35-year-old officer was responding to a report of an assault in progress in the 2300 block of West Washington Boulevard at 6:36 a.m. when he and his partner encountered a crowd, which they dispersed, according to News Affairs spokeswoman Robin Mohr.

The officers were talking to an 18-year-old assault victim when the offender, who had fled into her apartment, returned and threw a cup of bleach on the officer and the victim, according to a report from the police First Deputy Superintendent’s office.

The offender then tried to flee from police, but was arrested immediately.

The officer suffered damage to his left eye and skin irritation to his face, the report said. The officer and the 18-year-old victim were transported to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where they were treated and released, Mohr said.

Screw that, I hope she resisted a LOT and got a nice firm faceplant into asphalt, little gravelly bits digging into her face and everything. And I hope she struggled while she was down so those bits got kind of ground in. Chemical attacks piss me off.

It is like that here. We even have some judges that will give you a warrant for getting hit by a person. They say it is part of your job.

In Texas, aggravated assault of any public servent while on duty is a First Degree Felony.

In NC it is a Misd.

And NC has a law that says a person may fight an unlawful arrest by any means necessary up to, but not including Lethal means.

How many people have you arrested that thought it was a lawful arrest and they should be going to jail??

The problem is they have to prove it was an unlawful arrest, not just think that it was.

Can someone explain what an unlawful arrest is? And what's an illegal road block? I've seen these terms and can't figure out what is meant by them. In my mind if an officer is making the arrest then that's legal, if it's a citizen posing as an officer then that would make it illegal. Right?

In my mind, the only time a citizen can legally resist arrest or use force against an officer is when the officer uses blatently excessive force (such as shooting at or severely beating the suspect for no reason). All other disputes should be settled by the judge - That's what the hearing is for.

But how often does blatently excessive force really happen? Almost never, and most of those cases are highly publicized.
