Jammed Gun Saves Officer's Life
FLOYD COUNTY -- A brush with death for a Georgia police officer along a deserted road – police say a man fired a shot at the officer at point blank range – but the gun jammed.
A Floyd County Police Officer escaped death by inches early Friday after a suspect opened fire on him.
Two men were walking on Pleasant Valley Road near Abrams Road and flagged down the officer – what happened next is unbelievable.
Floyd County’s police chief says the officer survived only because the suspect’s weapon misfired.
The police chief says this is as close as the department could come to losing an officer without it actually happening. The officer was on the patrol in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere in Floyd County – when this all happened, he only survived because something happened to the suspect’s gun.
It was 2:20 a.m. Friday when Officer Stanley Wolford was flagged down by two people on the remote Pleasant Valley Road. One of them was allegedly 26-year-old Joshua Morrow.
“There was no physical altercation prior to, and no angry words at all, just a conversation like you and I are having,” said Chief Bill Shiflett.
The in-car video shows Officer Wolford going to the front of his cruiser and questioning the two suspects. He asked both if they had any form of identification – both said they did not.
Then suddenly from the right side of the screen – the suspect – identified as Morrow – lunges in with a gun, and within 2 feet of the officer’s face, he attempts to fire, but the first shot jams, the officer ducks and the second shot it successful. Chaos breaks loose – the suspect trying repeatedly to fire his weapon, one more shot goes off then everyone scatters.
“You can see the way the weapon was, it was less than 2 feet from his head,” said Chief Shiflett.
Within moments officers flood the area and the manhunt was on. The show of force frightening neighbors.
“I knew there was something for a helicopter and all to come up here,” said neighbor Johnny Nelson.
“He is frightened by the whole ordeal,” said Chief Shiflett.
It took 6 hours of searching to find the suspects – Joshua Morrow and a 16-year-old were found in the woods.
Morrow has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. When police asked him why he tried to shoot the officer without any provocation – he asked for a lawyer.

It doesn't say if the officer ever shot back. Do you know if he did? Thank God the gun missfired.

Agg Assault??? not Attempted First Degree Murder?? Seems Agg. Assault just isn't enough here. Unless that is the same as Att. 1st Degree Murder in that state, anyone know??"An Unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it." Jeff Cooper

Lets hear it for the guy that sold that POS a shitty weapon. And Shepards we shall be,
for thee, My Lord, for thee,
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy Command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls will it ever be.

Thank God a lot of criminals carry cheap shitty weapons.
